SCOPE
Concept development and production of set design for the performance ALITY by Two-women-machine-show & Jonathan Bonnici.
Created site specific for Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2018.
Adapted for Oil Tank Culture Park, Seoul International Dance Festival, Seoul, South Korea, 2019.
CONCEPT A series of vertical textile banners spanning from floor to ceiling in a lightweight and luminous silk organza. Creating transparent layers of space that softly moves with the fluctuations in the room adding to the kaleidoscopic nature of the performance. While at the same time creating subtle nooks and spatial anchors for the audience who is invited onto the stage for the three hour durational piece.
PRODUCTION 9 banners of 500 x 140-280 cm silk organza. Hand dyed gradients from primary colours spanning the full height of 500 cm.
Aluminum tubes and wire suspension from ceiling.

“ALITY comes from an enduring question about the possibilities of subversion/utopia. As a choreographic work it attempts to stay in a realm of possibles from which concrete instances may come into being. It is an experiment in indeterminacy, thin images that appear unbidden and glide between the lines of common readability offering spaces for the imagination to exercise.
The bodies in ALITY are on par with the space as a material available for negotiation. The possibility is for all present elements to offer their energetic subtexts. The performers do not compose, they practice, and in the eschewal of a rationalist determination, new longed for sensations and spaces appear. There is no fiction, no predefined images. Not unlike the experience of staring into the tarot or a kaleidoscope, ALITY is a space of spaces that unfolds the more it is attended to”.
